You know natural hydrogen has gone mainstream when the US military is considering how it might use the energy source.

Dr Richard Hartman, Chief Innovation Officer at the US Air Force Office of Energy Assurance, has featured on a popular natural hydrogen podcast, saying that natural hydrogen could be a "game-changer for energy resilience", keeping bases powered 24/7 independent of fragile grids.

The Air Force has already run an RFI that drew 30 responses across exploration, production, and financing; next steps focus on non-invasive prospecting on or near bases, followed by targeted drilling where justified. Hartman notes the biggest bottleneck is policy clarity on federal land leasing, not technology.

He sees potential overseas once the US model is proven.

Hartman seems pragmatically optimistic that natural hydrogen can scale within a few years.
