Gold Hydrogen Investor Hub

Korean and Japanese officials were accompanied by representatives from Gold Hydrogen, the South Australian Government and Invest South Australia at the Ramsay 1 bore site on the Yorke Peninsula.

A high-powered group of Japanese and Korean officials has visited Gold Hydrogen’s natural hydrogen tenement in South Australia.

Accompanied by officials from the SA Government’s Department for Energy and Mining and Invest South Australia, the group included officials from the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (Jogmec), the Korea Energy Economics Institute, Korea Testing and Research Institute, and Korea Testing Certification.

The group, made up of parties interested in fuels that will speed the race to carbon neutrality, have a high interest in Gold Hydrogen’s natural hydrogen play.

A second round of drilling is due later this year after initial tests in 2024 confirmed high levels of both hydrogen and helium in the sub-surface. Gold Hydrogen is one of the first companies in the world to confirm it has found high levels of hydrogen, which burns near carbon zero, at its Ramsay 1 site on the Yorke Peninsula.

Both the Asian countries have launched national hydrogen plans to try and capitalize on the low-carbon properties, and cost benefits, natural hydrogen would have.

Gold Hydrogen Executive Director Roger Cressey said the latest visit was just one of a number from interested foreign parties in the last 18 months.

"We continue to attract worldwide interest, as evidenced by the recent buy-in to the company of Japanese heavyweights Toyota, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical and Eneos Xplora."

JOGMEC’s Director General of its Hydrogen Project Department, Yoshifumi Suehiro, said the potential for natural hydrogen was immense.

"We really hope Gold Hydrogen and others in this field are successful, because they have the chance to make significant inroads on the way to carbon zero targets worldwide. In Japan, we are hopeful hydrogen will become one of the key paths for our energy future."

The Korean and Japanese parties are aligned on wanting to understand the carbon footprint of energy sources they might import.
